Chenango County, New York


Chenango County, New York was established in1798 from Tioga and Herkimer Counties.

Its is named for an Oneida word meaning "large bull-thistle."

Chenango County has a population of about 51,000 and its county seat is Norwich.

Morrisville State College is located in Norwich.

The county is part of the Southern Tier region of New York State, and includes the Chenango River, a tributary of the Susquehanna River.
